Manage files on a device

You can browse drives, folders, and files on the managed device without starting a full remote control session. This lets you troubleshoot and send, retrieve, copy, paste, or delete files and folders directly.

The File System tab works much like Windows Explorer. You can:

  • Copy, paste, and delete files

  • Upload and download files between the device and your computer

The Last Action column shows the most recent operation performed on a specific file or folder.

This feature is only available for managed Windows devices with N-able N-central agents installed.

Launch the File System

  1. Go to ViewsAll Devices and click the Network Devices tab.
  2. Select the device Name.
  3. Go to Tools > File System.

Navigate and Manage Files

  • Use the left pane to browse the folder hierarchy and the right pane to view folder contents.

  • Navigate to the file location and select the file.

  • To rename a file or folder, select the Edit (pencil) icon.

  • Select Refresh Now to update the view.

  • Use the Actions in Progress panel to monitor the status of ongoing operations, such as uploads, downloads, and deletions.

Toolbar options:

  • Send File – Upload a file from your computer to the remote device.

  • You cannot use Send File to upload folders.

  • Retrieve File – Download a file from the remote device to your computer.

  • Copy / Paste – Duplicate files or move them between folders on the remote device.
